Meet the Team
Michael Hendrickson, PhD, President/CEO, has thirty five years experience in academic medicine. As a senior research scientist and professor at USC, UCLA and UCSF, he taught physicians, nurses, allied and behavioral health professional particularly about care management of seniors with multiple chronic conditions. Additionally, he has served as CEO for several health care organizations including one of the largest geriatric health systems in the country. He shares a passion with Dr. Issvoran to help people gain the necessary tools to improve their self care management capacities especially with prevention, health promotion and wellness programs that address underlying physiological issues that put people at risk for chronic conditions.
Gerard Issvoran, DO, Medical Director, is a native of Monterey and graduated from Pacific Grove High School. He earned his osteopathic medical degree from Nova Southeastern University and completed his residency in family medicine from a UC Davis affiliated program in Sacramento, CA. He has incorporated his osteopathic training as a vital part of his practice along with a strong philosophy in preventive medicine with core belief that the human body has the capacity to heal and sustain itself given the proper opportunities through diet, nutrition and exercise.
Sandra Hendrickson, MSN, MA, GNP-BC, is a nurse practitioner with thirty years experience in geriatrics and working with people with chronic conditions. Most recently, she has served as the coordinator for the geriatric assessment and continuity of care planning center at the Monterey VA Clinic. She shares a passion for helping people to take charge of their own health care with lifestyle management and wellness tools. She has been a senior associate researcher and professor of nursing at several major universities.
Monica Huelga, Health Coach and Clinic Coordinator, obtained a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Medical Anthropology and Global Health from the University of Washington after studying abroad on Semester at Sea with public health focused coursework. Resetting her health with Ideal Protein, Monica hopes to support others in finding balance and enjoyment in leading a healthy lifestyle.
Sherry Gearey, Health Coach, is a successful graduate of MBayCIH’s weight loss program and believes strongly in transformative effect it can have on peoples lives. Prior experience include 29 years in the auto parts industry encompassing management, sales and administrative experience. Sherry is committed to helping people avoid chronic conditions by improving their lifestyle through nutritional health and wellness and weight management programs.
Veronica De La Torre, Salinas Clinic Health Coach, has been through MBayCIH’s nutritional health and weight loss program and can personally attest to the incredible benefits. Prior to becoming a health coach, Veronica worked as an office assistant for over twenty years. For the past five years, she has been home, caring for her children and grandchildren. Veronica truly believes in helping people take charge of their health. She is committed to helping others lose weight, reduce risks for chronic diseases, regain control over their health and improve their quality of life. She has witnessed how this program has helped her own children become healthy once again. Veronica is especially committed to reaching out to the Hispanic/Latino community where overweight, obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases are huge health challenges. In her spare time, she loves giving back to her community through faith sharing and teaching catechism. Veronica also loves spending time with her family and attending family functions.
